River City Bangkok Marks 40 Years of Magnificent Display of Art and Antiques

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, River City Bangkok marked its 40th anniversary with the event “40 Years of Magnificent Display of Art and Antiques.” The celebration highlighted its journey as a cultural hub, dedicated to promoting Thai art on the global stage. The event welcomed esteemed guests, artists, galleries, and partners, who joined to commemorate this milestone. Attendees enjoyed exhibitions of valuable art and antiques, alongside special performances by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and vocalists from Heavenly Voice Nancy’s Studio, creating a truly memorable evening.

Additionally, Ms. Linda Cheng, Managing Director of River City Bangkok, announced a new direction for the institution. River City Bangkok is committed to evolving into a center for arts and culture that provides endless opportunities for artists and various art forms to thrive and develop, encapsulated in the vision:

“River City Bangkok is A Place Where Art Lives, Breathes, and Inspires”

This mission aims to offer Thais access to diverse art forms and foster a greater appreciation for art, including contemporary art, theater performances, music, film screenings, and the timeless beauty of antiques. River City Bangkok is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and nurturing these treasures to ensure they endure.

At its core, River City Bangkok seeks to be a space where all art forms can flourish, transform, and continuously evolve, providing inspiration and preserving the beauty of the past while embracing the creativity of the future.

Additionally, River City Bangkok is presenting two special exhibitions for everyone to enjoy:

Ad Astra Per Aspera: Through Hardships to the Stars

A historical exhibition takes visitors on a journey back 40 years to when River City Bangkok was just a vision of its founder, Mr. Adisorn Charanachitta. On December 1, 1984, he established River City, Thailand’s first antique shopping center along the Chao Phraya River.

The exhibition features a showcase of the founder’s and management team’s history, including personal items such as books, letters, belongings, and Mr. Adisorn’s personal notebooks, which laid the foundation for the creation of River City Shopping Center. Over time, this center evolved into the River City Bangkok art and cultural hub we know today.

Before Sunrise

An exhibition bringing together over 40 talented artists from 7 renowned galleries, presented under the theme “Before Sunrise.” This concept symbolizes hope and the beauty of overcoming challenging times, celebrating River City Bangkok’s remarkable four-decade journey.

The 40th anniversary celebration is not only a tribute to River City Bangkok’s milestones since its founding but also marks the beginning of a new chapter. With unwavering commitment, River City Bangkok aims to continue supporting and elevating the Thai art scene to new heights.
